It has come to my attention that the ‘Zero Waste Tag’ is a thing right now, and I WANT IN!! If you decide to do a ZW tag of your own (or any fun tags, really) link me in the comments so I can see. Check out my video here!
WHAT GOT YOU STARTED WITH ZERO WASTE?
I was in a facebook group a long while ago where someone had posted a link about Lauren Singer and her jar of trash. The people in that group were astounded by it, saying it wouldn’t be possible in their world, and I was intrigued. I thought to myself, “Challenge accepted.”
WHAT IS YOUR MOST MEMORABLE ZERO WASTE MOMENT?
Definitely the first time I took jars with me to fill with bulk items. It took me a long while to gear up to do it and I was so nervous! But when I got to the register and told the cashier the tare weights of my jars and the PLUs for the products inside, and that cashier didn’t look at me funny, I knew I was successful!
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE BULK PURCHASE?
When I found raw, unfiltered, local honey in bulk I squealed. Then I turned the corner and found flavored olive oils in bulk as well! I was so excited. But, by far, my favorite is that the tea house that I love more than any other place on earth sells bulk teas. I knew they sold teas in their tins, but when I emailed them to ask about bringing my own container, they were encouraging. Very exciting for me!
WHAT IS YOUR MOST RECOMMENDED ZERO WASTE ITEM?
Still and probably always will be my To Go Ware utensil set. It saves me from plastic utensil use at work every.single.day. But, also, my hot/cold stainless steel locking water bottle similar to this one here!
WHAT KEEPS YOU MOTIVATED?
Dude, I still like a challenge! I know that full on zero waste is probably not going to happen for me, I have a cat, dog, car, kids, and a mate. But the constant challenge of finding new solutions is so fun to me! Finding the recycling centers nearby, making my own make up, and figuring out if cloth toilet paper is too gross for me (it’s not). My life won’t be stagnant, I will not be bored.
